The story of the Paper Mill is also the story of the emergence of the town of Silkeborg. The Paper Mill is dedicated to the story of machine made and hand made paper. Here, at this mill, the paper for money bills and securities was manufactured until 1992. The production of paper stopped in 2000. See the opening hours and entry fees of Papirmuseet here.
At Blicheregnen, part of the permanent exhibitions tell about early 19th century poet and parson Steen Steensen Blicher, and about country life in general during the 19th century. The museum is located in wings of the vicarage of Thorning village, close to the church where Steen Steensen Blicher had his living in the years 1819-1825. See the opening hours and entry fees of Blicheregnen here.
Hovedgården, the former Silkeborg Manor House, displays an extensive collection of archaeological finds with a special focus on the Early Iron Age; this is the time period of the Tollund Man, the world famous bog body from around 300 BC. Tollund Man is the highlight of the museum's collection. The collections of recent history describe the castle of Silkeborg, local pottery, glass manufacture of the Renaissance, and the history of Silkeborg, a town founded in the middle of the 19th century. See the opening hours and entry fees of Hovedgården here.
